A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens
Adapted by Michael Wilson
Dec. 3 - 19, 2010

Picture
In this adaptation of Dicken's classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the essence of the holiday spirit is distilled in a series of sights, sounds and splendors that all but guarantee audiences leave bursting with a feeling of Christmas.  Focusing on Dickens' powerful language, humor and warmth, this charming version of A Christmas Carol simply and directly tells the story of the redemption of a human soul. The play follows the ever-powerful story of Scrooge, a lonely miser, who, through the help of spirits and visions from his past, present and future, finds a second chance to become a loving, generous human being.

The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkien
Adapted by Edward Mast
March 18 - 27, 2011

Picture
This is a suspenseful, fast-moving journey through the sometimes dark, sometimes charming, always compelling world of Middle Earth. Bilbo Baggins is a comfortably well-off hobbit with a love for rousing adventure stories. Real adventures, however, are definitely not his cup of tea. So when Gandalf the wizard knocks at Bilbo's door, bringing with him Thorin Oakenshield, 11 ragged looking dwarfs, and a contract for an adventure to recover the lost treasure of Lonely Mountain, Bilbo could not be less interested—at first. But Bilbo's love of a good story gets the better of him, and before he knows it, he is off on a perilous quest over mountain and under hill through caves and forest and slimy dark places.

Grab your picnic dinner, your lawn chair and your friends and family.  The Merc Playhouse is bringing theater to the parks.  Enjoy You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in the Twisp and Winthrop parks this summer.  All your favorite characters from Charles Schultz’ classic comic strip will be there including Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy.  Your entire family will enjoy the toe-tapping numbers in this show including The Kite, Suppertime and Happiness.  Sympathize with Charlie as he tries to get the attention of the little red haired girl.  Laugh at Lucy teaching her brother Linus the facts of life.  Love the way the whole gang comes together to celebrate the big and little things make them happy.
