You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Music & Lyrics by Clark Gesner
July 22-24 - Twisp Park
July 28 - August 14 - Winthrop Park
7 pm
Grab your picnic dinner, your lawn chair and your friends and family. The Merc Playhouse is bringing theater to the parks. Enjoy You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in the Twisp and Winthrop parks this summer. All your favorite characters from Charles Schultz’ classic comic strip will be there including Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy. Your entire family will enjoy the toe-tapping numbers in this show including The Kite, Suppertime and Happiness. Sympathize with Charlie as he tries to get the attention of the little red haired girl. Laugh at Lucy teaching her brother Linus the facts of life. Love the way the whole gang comes together to celebrate the big and little things make them happy.
Artistic Director, Julie Wenzel, talks about choosing this show and the decision to take theater outdoors. “I have had the privilege of being involved in outdoor musical theater for many years and I know the magic it can create. We recognize that people live and visit the Methow to enjoy the beautiful, natural beauty. We want to meet people there and celebrate the way nature and the arts complement each other. I chose this show because it is so accessible. No matter where you are in life, you can relate or remember situations that the characters experience. Theater is all about getting people to reflect on their lives and the choices they make. This show, in this environment is going to make that reflection happen easily. Please join us this summer.”
Critical to a great production is the cast and crew that work together. This show will be directed by Julie Wenzel, with musical direction by Suzanne Johnson and choreography by Missi Smith. These ladies have spent several months strategizing and working together to create the most dynamic show possible. All three are veterans at musical theater and are excited about the collaborative process. The group of six actors will be arriving in the valley in late June and preparing for the July 22opening.
There are many community partners supporting this production including the towns of Winthrop and Twisp, the Liberty Bell High School Construction class (through a partnership with the Public School Funding Alliance), Methow Arts Alliance and many others. This is a great community project. Swing by the 4th of July Arts Fest where the cast will be performing a couple of numbers.
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown runs July 22 – 24 in the Twisp Park and July 28 – August 14, Thursdays through Sunday, in the Winthrop Park. All shows start at 7 pm. Rain or Shine--please dress for all kinds of weather. Adults $20, Youth 18 & Under $10 “Pay What You Can” performance Sunday., July 24. The Merc Playhouse; 509-997-PLAY (7529).
